HANCOCK COUNTY — In April 2019, Matthew Stahl was shot in the arm during a roadside confrontation at the intersection of County Roads 400E and 600N. Late last week, he was sentenced to several years in prison for felony stalking charges.

Stahl, 29, Greenfield, was given a five-year prison term for a Level 5 felony count of stalking. Judge Scott Sirk, who conducted the sentencing on Thursday, April 16, via video, also said a no-contact order would remain in full effect against Stahl to protect the victim. She was not charged after she shot him in the arm during the confrontation on April 13, 2019.

According to court documents, Stahl will get 359 days credit for time served, leaving four years to be executed. There was, however, a recommendation that the defendant complete a Recovery While Incarcerated program, which could lead to another year of the term being suspended to probation.

Part of the plea agreement states Stahl must undergo a mental health evaluation and treatment. Stahl must also successfully complete domestic violence counseling.

Two Level 6 felony counts of intimidation, for two other incidents in April 2019, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
