To the editor:

We have all heard and seen gun violence on TV. It’s a problem across our country. However, the majority of our citizens are law-abiding, and we are all thankful. We see proposals all the time restricting law-abiding gun owners’ rights again and again, but violence continues.

Well, a gun isn’t the only thing that criminals utilize while committing crimes. We have seen criminals use cars to also break the law. Criminals speed, drive in a reckless manner and sadly hit and injure people while trying to get away from police. Let’s say lawmakers proposed that we take two wheels off every law-abiding citizen’s car. What would be the results of their proposal? Well, I think there would be almost no cars on the highway for criminals to hit.

I don’t think criminals care about laws. We applied the exact same logic to this problem as we did with guns. People are working on this problem all over our country. The criminals aren’t following any gun laws, so I bet they wouldn’t remove two tires from their cars, either.

I just thought of something that might work. Lawmakers should increase the penalty for using a firearm in a crime to life in prison without parole. This law might be a way to reduce gun violence. The law doesn’t punish the majority of law-abiding citizens, but why would we? We hope state and federal lawmakers all over the country see this and take action immediately. We must stop the violence ASAP. We need logical solutions to all our problems.

The law-abiding citizens of this country will never give up their guns. Stop trying to take our rights from us. There must be another reason for trying to take our guns. I know now exactly why. All I needed was to think, watch and listen.

The people of this country have something far more powerful than any gun or car even with four tires. It’s our votes. I’ve been part of the silent majority too long but no longer, because I see something too evil to ignore.

We the people must never let anyone divide us. I hear people on TV telling us who is to blame, but I will think watch and listen. I’ve figured it out; have you? If you haven’t yet, look at data and be sure it hasn’t been filtered and think, watch and listen. We must look everywhere to find unfiltered data. I’m sorry to say this is very difficult to find today. A single source of data today can’t be trusted. A long time ago we could, but not now. People will in time tell you what they stand for by their actions or votes.
