MT. COMFORT — Amazon plans to move an operations facility into a logistics center being developed near Mt. Comfort and fill it with more than 800 jobs.

An application filed with the state indicates an Amazon e-commerce fulfillment and distribution facility is going into the 660,384-square-foot building under construction at 4498 W. County Road 300N.

Owen Torres, regional manager, external communications for Amazon operations, told the Daily Reporter in an email that the company is excited to continue its investment in Indiana with the new Mt. Comfort facility.

“More than 800 new, full-time employees will receive and ship products to other Amazon fulfillment centers in the network,” Torres said.

Torres added employees will make Amazon’s $15 minimum wage and that the company offers comprehensive benefits to full-time employees.

The tech giant has more than 175 fulfillment centers across the globe and more than 150 million square feet of space where employees pick, pack and ship millions of customer orders per year, according to its website.

Indianapolis-based Ambrose Property Group is developing the building and three other speculative buildings for the $130 million logistics center on 166 acres on the north side of West County Road 300N and west of County Road 400W.

The Hancock County Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for the development in late 2019, which will be a full abatement the first year before getting smaller over the years that follow. Ambrose is the party of record for the abatement.

The development marks a rising trend of large buildings built on speculation in the Mt. Comfort area.
