The Friends4Good group lays out the winter wear for the homeless in downtown Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS — Some have called their program a “blessings on branches,” but for a group of students from New Palestine, it’s another chance to give back.

The students, many now in high school, have worked together for years in their Friends4Good program doing good deeds in and around the community. Every winter, they work to collect warm clothing to distribute to homeless people in Indianapolis.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, they took the coats, gloves, hats and other items they’ve collected over the past several weeks and hung them from trees and bushes in downtown Indianapolis for homeless people to pick up for free.

Their trip downtown marked the fifth year for this project. All the extra, unused items will be distributed to various homeless shelters, members of the group said.
