Ronald Rockhill, 90, of Fortville, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at his home surrounded by family. He was born March 15, 1929 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Ron was a graduate of Riley High School in South Bend and later Indiana Institute of Technology in Ft. Wayne.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving at the tail end of World War II and then later was recalled to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1956. Ron retired from Brookside Corporation and later worked part-time at Astury Environmental Engineering.

Ron was very active throughout his life. He was a former Boy Scout leader, a member of the Fortville VFW Post #6904 and Fortville American Legion Post #391, Fortville F & AM Lodge No. 207 having served as Chaplain for 2 years.

Ron enjoyed woodworking, collecting old clocks and tinkering with electricity. He also enjoyed performing magic and did so at an event at the Governor’s mansion.

Ron was most active in the Fortville United Methodist Church. He was involved with United Methodist Men, the handbell choir and was a lay leader in the church.

Ron is survived by wife Shirley (Snider) Rockhill, whom he married September 21, 1951; son: David (Patsy) Rockhill of Terre Haute, daughter: Lynnette Leonard of Fortville; grandchildren: Adriane (Shawn) Curtis, Nathaniel (Melissa) Rockhill, Eli (Teeyah) Rockhill, Joel (Libby) Leonard and Rachel Leonard; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers: Allen Rockhill, twin brother Donald Rockhill and Thomas “Tommy” Rockhill.

He was preceded in death by his father Amos Rockhill, mother Olive (Carmean) Forbes and brother Billy Rockhill.

A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will begin with Masonic Memorial Rites on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fortville First United Methodist Church. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial of Ron’s cremated remains will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 3:00 pm with Military Honors.
