Fans invited to support MV football team

Members of the public are invited to line Main Street in Fortville Friday to wish the Marauders well on their way to semistate.

Mt. Vernon High School’s football players will load their buses at 1:20 p.m. by the football field.

The buses will head down Main Street at 1:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to show their support with posters and noisemakers.

The Marauders will play Evansville Memorial High School Friday evening in Evansville in the Class 4A state semifinal game.

Boesing, Greiwe highlight IBCA POW list

Two weeks are complete in the 2019-2020 girls basketball season, and four more players share honors for the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week award.

Bremen Senior Erin Coffel, Northwestern Senior Kendall Bostic, Our Lady of Providence Senior Natalie Boesing, and Columbus East Sophomore Koryn Greiwe have been selected as honorees for Nov. 11-16 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

2019-20 Weekly Winners

Nov. 4-9: District-1 girls: Lilliann Frasure, North Judson-San Pierre. District-2 girls: Madison Layden, Northwestern, and Ashlynn Shade, Noblesville. District-3 girls: Rebekah Gordon, Heritage Hills.

Nov. 11-16: District-1 girls: Erin Coffel, Bremen. District-2 girls: Kendall Bostic, Northwestern. District-3 girls: Natalie Boesing, Our Lady of Providence, and Koryn Greiwe, Columbus East.

Grace to host prep hoops tournament

The third annual boys’ basketball Champions of Character Classic is being held at Grace College on Dec. 21.

Ten high school teams will converge at the five-game classic, held at Grace’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

The classic features a number of highly-recruited students, including: Charlie Yoder (Westview), Blake Davidson (Leo), J.R. Konieczny (SB St. Joseph), Kyle Ross (Andrean), Jake Wadding (Chesterton) and Michael Eley (Snider).

Among ranked teams from last year’s final AP poll are: No. 5 Westview (2A), No. 5 University (1A), No. 14 Andrean (2A) and No. 19 South Bend St. Joseph (3A).
