Boys soccer

G-C defeats Mt. Vernon

Caleb Mundell and Tyler Murphy each had two goals in Greenfield-Central’s 6-1 victory over Mt. Vernon on Saturday.

Zack Bell had a goal and assist. Trevor Sawyer had the other Cougars tally. Mundell and Jordan Phillips also had assists.

Mt. Vernon’s goal came from Zach Johnson, assisted by Alex Nielsen.

Greenfield-Central is 13-1 overall and leads the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 6-0 record. Mt. Vernon is 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the HHC.

The win clinches a share of the HHC title.

Girls soccer

Mt. Vernon beats Delta

Mt. Vernon secured a share of the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship with an 11-4 win at Delta Saturday.

Maddie Swingle, Riley Hurst, and Shay Shipley had two goals each. Anna Isger, Katie Gawrys, Rylie Pearson, Kaidlin Jeter and Shay Stindle had the other goals.

Shipley had three assists and Hurst had two. Other assists were by Pearson, Stindle, Swingle and Riley Britt.

Mt. Vernon is 10-5 overall and 6-0 in the HHC.

Dragons shut out Bears

New Palestine defeated host Lawrence Central 2-0 on Saturday.

Addie Halter scored off an assist by Moriah Corey to start the scoring. Maddy Miller had the second goal, assisted by goalkeeper Haley Weinrich.

Weinrich, Whitney Miller and Riley Moss combined for the shutout.

New Palestine is 8-5-2.

Volleyball

Cougars win Challenge

Greenfield-Central won its own tournament, the Cougar Challenge, picking up four wins on Saturday.

In four 2-0 straight set wins, the Cougars defeated Edinburgh, Shortridge, Whiteland and New Haven.

Ava Antic was selected tournament MVP. Brooke Herrell and Morgan Hornaday were named to the all-tournament team.

Dragons place second

New Palestine finished in second place at the New Palestine Invitational.

The Dragons opened with wins over Lawrence Central (25-17, 25-10) and Rushville (25-12, 25-15) before losing to Southport (25-19, 25-16) in the final.

Kaelyn Armstrong and Jesi Hall had seven kills each in the win over LC. Reina Amones had five service aces in the victory over Rushville, while Hall added nine kills.

Against Southport, Grace Myers had 18 digs. Sarah Adam had a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs.

Marauders go 2-1 in Muncie

Mt. Vernon went 2-1 at the Muncie Central Invitational.

The Marauders beat both Columbus North and Richmond by 2-0 scores. They lost 2-1 to Wapahani.

In a 27-25, 25-10 win over North, Claire Ertel had seven kills. Victoria Bulmahn had four service aces.

Against Richmond, a 25-18, 25-19 win, Bulmahn and Sophie Schultz had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

In the loss to Wapahani, 18-25, 25-21, 15-9, Cecilia Bulmahn and Ertel each had nine kills. Olivia Yeley had six blocks.

Boys cross-country

Kinnaman wins invitational

Greenfield-Central’s Conner Kinnaman won the Delta Eagle Invitational, Saturday, finishing the 5K in 17:13.

The Cougars finished second with 54 points, trailing only winning team Cathedral (20).

G-C’s Micah Smith was eighth in 17:53.

Dragons place fourth

Led by Devon Whitaker’s fifth-place finish, New Palestine placed fourth in the large-school division at the Shelbyville Golden Bear Invitational, Saturday.

Whitaker finished the 5K in 17:13.15. Colin Darley was seventh in 17:17.71.

Girls cross country

Brinkruff takes first place

Audrey Brinkruff took home first place in the Delta Eagle Invitational on Saturday, crossing the finishing line in 19:24.6.

G-C was fourth as a team with 86 points. Cathedral won with 26.

Shaw takes top spot

New Palestine’s Brenna Shaw won the individual title in the 16-team Shelbyville Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday.

The Dragons finished second as a team in the big-school division. Shaw finished her 5K race in 19:13.47. Emma Mann was third in 19:26.73.

NP tied with Columbus North with 46 points, but the Bulldogs won the event on their sixth runner.

Boys tennis

Royals third at invitational

Eastern Hancock finished third at its Eastern Hancock Invitational on Saturday.

Oldenburg Academy won the event with 31 points. Lapel had 17 and the Royals scored 12. Blackford did not score.

Kodey Huff, Nolan Stout and Zeke Dixon all went 1-1 in singles play.

The teams of Brady Smith-John McDaniel and Sammy Blocher-Bryce Wennen also went 1-1 on the day.

Cougars beat Warriors

Greenfield-Central defeated Warren Central 3-2 on Saturday.

Robbie Dye won his singles match 7-5, 6-0.

The Cougars swept doubles matches. Seth Kirkpatrick and Kane Bradley won 6-1, 6-1. Corbin Tilley and Nick Grandstaff finished on top with a 6-3, 6-0 count.
