Car strikes pedestrian; driver arrested

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield woman is in critical condition after a car struck her Thursday night, and the driver faces a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Greenfield police and fire departments were dispatched at about 8:05 p.m. to the crash near the intersection of East McKenzie Road and North Brandywine Street in Greenfield, according to a news release from the Greenfield Police Department.

The Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team was soon activated to respond to the scene, the release continues.

The driver of a gray 2008 Pontiac G6 was identified as Jeremy Thompson, 39, Greenfield. Thompson was uninjured, the release states, adding he was later arrested on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing catastrophic injury.

The pedestrian was identified as Kathy Davis, 71, Greenfield. Davis was airlifted from Hancock Regional Hospital to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, where she is in critical condition, according to the release.

The crash is still under investigation.
