Marauders edge New Pal to stay unbeaten in HHC

Mt. Vernon improved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 3-2 win at rival New Palestine on Tuesday.

The win sets up a battle with 6-0 Delta for the HHC title, Sept. 30, at Delta.

For the Marauders, Chris Hays won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Reece Powell added a win at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0, and the team of Dallas Turner and Owen Koon won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles match.

New Palestine won at No. 1 singles with Ben Blachly earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Dragons also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles with Ethan Haeberle and Ezra Schwier winning by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

Royals drop close one at Tri

Eastern Hancock lost a 3-2 decision at Tri on Tuesday.

For the Royals, Nolan Stout won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Zeke Dixon was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at No. 3 singles.

The Royals are 10-6 on the season.

Cougars win easily at New Castle

Greenfield-Central defeated host New Castle 11-0, on Tuesday, in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.

The Cougars scored eight goals in the first half.

For the game, Anne Marie DeKeyser had three goals and two assists. Kelsi McLaughlin had two goals and an assist. Gladys Rodriguez had one goal and two assists.

Other goals were scored by Sarah Contreraz, Sofia Torres, Haley Davidson, Morgan Murdoch and Courtney Vaughn.

Other assists were by Contreraz, Cora Bishop, Kambell Trapp and Emily Davidson.

The Cougars are 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the HHC.

Knepper’s goal is difference in MV win

Jacob Knepper broke a 1-1 tie with the game’s only second-half goal in Mt. Vernon’s 2-1 victory at Lawrence Central.

Logan Angelopulos assisted on the game-winner. Mt. Vernon took a 1-0 first-half lead on a goal by Drew Heitman, assisted by Knepper.

Mt. Vernon improved its overall record to 6-6.

Dragons lose to Center Grove

New Palestine lost 10-0 at Center Grove on Tuesday.

The Dragons are 1-10-1 on the season.
