PENDLETON — Mt. Vernon finished second and Eastern Hancock had the second most individual champions at Wednesday’s Pendleton Heights Girls Track and Field Sectional.

The top three in each of the 16 events automatically qualified for Tuesday’s Pike Regional. Other top placers could get callbacks later this week to earn regional spots.

The Marauders qualified all three of their relays and will have participants in nine events next week. They scored 118.5 points, second to Lawrence North with 178.

Eastern Hancock was sixth overall with 42 points, but its three champions were second only to Lawrence North’s eight.

Freshman Bella Sotelo won the 100-meter hurdles (15.02 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (44.78 seconds) and junior Ellie Meyer, a state qualifier last year, won the high jump by clearing 5-feet, 2-inches.

They were Eastern Hancock’s only regional qualifiers.

Mt. Vernon won one event, the 4×800-meter relay. Emma Gasiorek, Emma Gale, Makenna Laffey and Hannah Hauser were victorious in 10:25.89. Three of the four, Gasiorek, Gale and Hauser were part of last year’s sectional championship relay team.

Marissa Miner qualified in four events. She was runner-up to Sotelo in both hurdle races, running a 16.54 in the 100 and a 48.31 in the 300. She was third in the long jump with a distance of 16-feet, 5-inches. She was also the third leg of the runner-up 4×100 relay team with Londyn Floyd, Ani’ya Williams and Molly Worth. They finished in 50.73 seconds.

Laurel Hoeppner was second to Meyer in the high jump at 5-feet, 1-inch.

Gasiorek, Madeline Wilson, Brooklyn Harris and Worth were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:16.47.

Worth qualified for three events. Along with the two relays, she was third in the 400 with a time of 1:00.90.

Hauser also earned a position in next week’s 1600. She was third in 5:27.24.

Eastern’s Sotelo was one of three individual double-winners. Pendleton Heights’ Ava Jarrell won the 1600 (4:54.90) and 3200 (10:58.63) and Lawrence North’s Ava Grace Winters won the 200 (26.03) and 400 (58.09).

Winters was also on two relay winners. LN’s Adrianna Woods won the 100 (12.68) and was also on two champion relay teams.
