Royals have record-setting match

Eastern Hancock broke two school records in its final match of the regular season.

At Royal Hylands on Thursday, Jocelyn Duncan shot a record round of 40 and, the team had a record-low score in a 188-223 victory over Centerville.

The team finished the regular season with a 14-5 record. Haleigh Cavaletto had a season-low score of 44. Daly Pelger and Shelby Jackson each shot 52, and Inez Friddle had a 64.

Cougars beat Bears, Flashes

Greenfield-Central closed out its regular season with a round of 178 and defeated both Shelbyville (202) and Franklin Central (205) on Thursday at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield.

Caroline Gibson led the way with a round of 38. Tandess O’Neal followed with a 42. Katie Curry shot 48, and Haley Hoagland finished with a 50.

Marauders get win No. 14

Mt. Vernon improved to 14-1 on the campaign with a 5-0 win over host New Castle on Thursday.

In singles play, Chris Hays, Haiden Rose and Reece Powell each picked up wins.

In doubles action, the teams of Justin Lemke-Jackson Dunlavy and Dallas Turner-Owen Koon were victorious.

G-C falls to Alexandria

Greenfield-Central was defeated at home, 3-2, by Alexandria on Thursday.

Carson Gibson picked up a win at No. 3 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Corbin Tilley and Nick Grandstaff had the other victory.

Royals sweep Jackets

Eastern Hancock earned a 5-0 victory over visiting Morristown on Thursday.

The Royals won all but two games in the match. Kodey Huff, at No. 1 singles, and Zeke Dixon, at No. 3 singles, both won by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Nolan Stout, playing the No. 2 spot, won 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles matches, Brady Smith and Sammy Blocher won at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0. John McDaniel and Bryce Wennen picked up the win at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0.

New Pal beats Triton Central

New Palestine defeated Triton Central, 4-1, in a home match Thursday at the New Palestine Tennis Courts.

The Dragons’ Ben Blachly won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Colin Darley was victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

The other two wins came in doubles. The No. 1 group of Ethan Haeberle and Ezra Schwier won 6-0, 6-2. The No. 2 team of Clayton Wesley and Jackson Havel won 6-3, 6-0.

Cougars rally, win over Shelbyville

After dropping the first set, Greenfield-Central came back to defeat visiting Shelbyville, 3-1, on Thursday.

Set scores for the match were 16-25, 25-22, 25-13, 27-25.

Junior outside hitters Ava Antic and Makayla Price combined for 22 kills. Brooke Herrell had nine, and Kenley Carpenter added seven. Marissa Grigsby had 17 digs.

The Cougars are 12-5 overall and 2-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Marauders fall to No. 3 New Castle

Mt. Vernon lost a 3-0 match at No. 3 New Castle on Thursday.

The Marauders are 13-3 overall and 3-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. New Castle improved to 15-1 and 4-0 in league play.

Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.

For the Marauders, Cecilia Bulmahn and Claire Ertel had nine kills each. Olivia Yeley added seven. Sophie Schultz had seven digs, and Victoria Bulmahn had 25 assists.

Dragons downed by Arabians

New Palestine fell to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 3-0 loss at Pendleton Heights on Thursday.

The Dragons lost by set scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-15.

Pendleton Heights is 19-4 and 1-2 in the HHC.

For New Pal, Grace Myers had 15 digs, and Sarah Adam had 15 assists.

Eastern loses to Southwestern

In a home contest against Southwestern (Shelby), Eastern Hancock lost 3-0 by set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-12.

The Royals are 6-14 on the season.

Girls soccer

Marauders lose to No. 1 HSE

Mt. Vernon dropped a 7-1 decision to visiting top-ranked Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday.

Maddie Swingle had the goal for the Marauders.

Mt. Vernon is 8-4 on the season.
