Girls golf

Royals finish 4th in MEC

Eastern Hancock competed in Saturday’s Mid-Eastern Conference meet, finishing in fourth place out of eight teams with a 436.

The Royals had two all-conference finishers, with Haleigh Caveletto finishing eighth with a 99 and Jocelyn Duncan 11th with a 106. Shelby Jackson added a 115 (17th), Daly Pelger a 116 (18th) and Inez Friddle shot a 126 to round out the Royals scoring.

Eastern Hancock competes in the Hancock County Meet today at 4:30 p.m. at Hawk’s Tail in Greenfield.

Boys soccer

Cougars top Westfield

Greenfield-Central improved to 4-0-0 on the season with a win Saturday at Westfield, 4-2.

Caleb Mundell started the scoring in the third minute, and after Westfield tied the game later in the first half, Zack Bell scored twice, both off assists from Mundell, to give the Cougars a 3-1 halftime lead. Westfield narrowed the deficit 20 minutes in the half but Bell assisted on a Jacob Scrivner goal in the 80th minute to round out the scoring.

Abe Buescher had 18 saves in goal for the Cougars, who play tonight at home against Pendleton Heights.

Girls soccer

Marauders split at invite

Mt. Vernon picked up a win Saturday against Glenn, 3-0, then lost in a shootout to the hosts of the invite, Argos, 1-1 (6-5).

Rylie Pearson, Riley Hurst and Maddie Swingle scored against Glenn. Pearson scored the lone regulation goal against Argos.

The Marauders (4-2) play tonight at Shelbyville.

Volleyball

Cougars compete in invite

Eastern Hancock competed in Saturday’s Indiana Deaf Invitational, finishing the day with a 2-1 record to improve to 3-8 on the season.

The Royals topped Indiana School for the Deaf, 25-12, 25-13, and Sheridan, 25-17, 25-17. They fell to Southwestern, 25-18, 25-10.

They are next in action Thursday at home against Blue River Valley.

Cross-country

Cougars, Marauders compete

Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon competed in Saturday’s Noblesville Hokum Karem, with the Marauders boys finishing seventh and the Cougars eighth, and the Marauders girls finishing fourth and the Cougars sixth.

Greenfield-Central’s Austin Nigh and Connor Kinnaman were the top county finishers on the boys side, coming in at 12th. Mt. Vernon’s top team was Jacob Benz and Michael Damer in 19th.

Greenfield-Central’s Audrey Brinkruff and Reagan Crouch finished 11th, while the Marauders top pair was Kamryn Eason and Victoria Jenson, who finished 16th.
