HANCOCK COUNTY — A traffic stop at State Roads 234 and 67 in McCordsville led to the arrest of two people on multiple drug charges.

Sarah Johnson, 21, Greenfield, has been charged with five drug crimes, the most serious of which is a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine. The charge carries a sentence of up to 12 years. She’s also facing a Level 6 felony charge of possession of a narcotic drug and three misdemeanor drug charges.

Jarod Michael Ayers, 34, Noblesville, was also arrested. He was charged with a Level 6 felony count of possession of methamphetamine.

A third person in the car was not charged.

After stopping the car with three people late last week, a Fortville Police Department officer noticed the driver appeared to be extremely nervous, a probable cause affidavit said.

The officer detected a strong odor of raw marijuana. When the driver, identified as Ayers, was searched, a gray plastic bag was found hanging out of a pocket that tests later showed contained methamphetamine, the affidavit said.

A search of Johnson by police located a straw with a brown powdery substance police believed to be heroin. They also found a folded up piece of aluminium foil in Johnson’s jacket, the affidavit said.

They also found a bag containing pills later identified as Alprazpolam and small packages that appeared to be methamphetamine. Alprazpolam is a medication used to treat anxiety disorders.

Fortville and McCordsville police also discovered a leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana when they searched the vehicle.

Both made their initial court appearances on Monday.
