Boys soccer

Dragons earn draw

New Palestine played to a 2-2 draw with Whiteland on Tuesday evening at Kelso Stadium.

The visiting Warriors scored first, but the Dragons came back by earning a penalty kick, which Jon Moore converted to tie the game. The Dragons then took the lead when Moore scored his fifth goal of the season. Zach Martin crossed the ball into the area, where Moore headed it into the net. Whiteland tied the game with a second-half goal.

The Dragons are now 0-2-1 on the season. They next play today at home against Franklin Central, with a 5:30 p.m. JV start.

Marauders drop HHC match

Mt. Vernon opened Hoosier Heritage Conference play on Tuesday night with a road loss, 2-1 to host Delta.

Anthony Wallace scored the lone Mt. Vernon goal. The loss drops the Marauders to 1-3 on the season. They play next today at home against Avon.

Girls soccer

Dragons roll past Southport

New Palestine had a strong start to the season’s second week, shutting out Southport 6-0 Tuesday evening.

Anna Luker had four assists for the Dragons. Abby Blachly and Maddy Miller scored twice, and Addie Halter and Whitney Miller each scored once. Other assists came from Sydner Miller and Maddy Miller.

Haley Weinrich had her third shutout of the season.

The Dragons (3-0-1) next play at 7 p.m. today against New Castle at Kelso Stadium.

Volleyball

Cougars sweep Connersville

Greenfield-Central improved to 4-1 on the year with a three-set sweep of Connersville on Tuesday, 25-13, 25-5, 25-9.

Makayla Price came away with 11 service aces in the three sets the lead the Cougars.

Dragons drop Franklin

New Palestine won three straight-set matches to clinch a 4-1 victory Tuesday over Franklin.

Ben Blachly made quick work of his match at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, Colin Darley used consistent strokes to frustrate his opponent and win 6-3, 6-1. At doubles, Jeremy Wagoner/Ethan Haeberle won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1. Ezra Schwier/Clayton Wesley won a super-tiebreaker 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 to finish off the match.

Cougars get first win

Greenfield-Central picked up its first HHC win on Tuesday, topping visiting New Castle, 4-1.

The Cougars won both doubles points and got their match point from No. 2 singles, where Robbie Dye picked up the win. The fourth point for the Cougars came from Garrett Neumeister at No. 3 singles, winning 10-8 super tiebreaker in the third set.

Royals fall to Rushville

Eastern Hancock fell to 1-1 on the season with a 5-0 home loss to Rushville on Tuesday.

Two matches went to three sets, with Kodey Huff eventually falling at No. 1 singles and Brady Smith and John McDaniel losing a super tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles.

Royals narrowly lose

Eastern Hancock lost a close match on Tuesday to Wes-Del, 210-216.

Daly Pelger was medalist for the Royals with a 49. Jocelyn Duncan shot a 51, Haliegh Caveletto had a 57, and Shelby Jackson and Inez Friddle each finished with a 59.
