All-state, all-conference softball, tennis announced

GREENFIELD — Both the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association all-state and Hoosier Heritage Conference all-conference softball lists are filled with Hancock County athletes.

The softball honors are led by New Palestine, with the regional-champion Dragons boasting a conference-best five all-HHC selections and three all-staters. Coach Ed Marcum was also named HHC Coach of the Year after leading the team to its sixth straight conference title.

New Palestine seniors Emily O’Connor and Jaylin Calvert received the biggest honors, both earning all-HHC and first team all-state. Junior Michaela Jones was named all-HHC and second team all-state. Seniors Tatum Biddle and Macy Miller were both also all-HHC.

Sectional champion Mt. Vernon was tied for second-most all-HHC choices with three players, all underclassmen. Junior Sydnee Perry earned third team all-state status and all-HHC, and sophomores Haley Kissee and Karlee Franklin were selected to the all-conference team.

Greenfield-Central is represented on the all-HHC team with two seniors, Lexi Rankin and Kensie Bradley.

New Palestine also led county selections on the all-HHC tennis team with three players honored. Singles player Megan Long and the doubles team of Claire Cherry and Josee King were all unanimously selected.

Mt. Vernon and Greenfield-Central were each represented by one all-HHC player, both also unanimously selected. Marauders No. 1 player Lydia Ruegsegger and Cougars No. 1 player Avery Spencer both were chosen.

Two Hancock County athletes have been selected to participate in the annual softball North/South All-Star Game at Indiana University.

New Palestine seniors Emily O’Connor and Jaylin Calvert were selected to participate in the event, a doubleheader that will be played on June 22 at Andy Mohr Stadium.
