Softball

Dragons get walk-off win

Facing a 5-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, New Palestine staged a big comeback, culminating in Jaylin Calvert’s three-run walk-off homer and a 6-5 victory.

Emily O’Connor started the comeback with a double to left. Macy Miller followed with a long homer to cut the deficit to 5-2.

A Tatum Biddle hit and a fielding error put two on with two outs, and Kendal Calvert hit an RBI single on a full count to cut the deficit to 5-3. Jaylin Calvert ripped the first pitch she saw over the center field fence to cap the comeback.

Sam Booe had the win for the Dragons in relief, allowing two hits and two earned runs in three innings. She struck out six. Kaylea Bullock fanned five and allowed two earned runs and four hits in the game’s first four innings.

The Dragons are now 21-3. They next play Thursday at Lutheran.

Baseball

Cougars get victory

Greenfield-Central used strong pitching and defense to get a Senior Night win Tuesday against Southport, 1-0.

Mason Bussell and Brady Mundell combined to shut out the visitors on the mound. Nick Atwood sprinted home on Jacob Hauser’s double in the fifth for the lone run of the night.

Dragons fall on road

New Palestine surrendered seven first-inning runs and eventually fell 14-3 to Bloomington North on Tuesday.

It was the Cougars’ second win over the Dragons in a seven-day span. Bloomington North has won 18 straight games.

Colby Jenkins led the Dragons offensively, going 2-for-3. Noah Mack, Eric Roudebush, Grant Hickman and Alex Kropp also had hits for the Dragons.

Royals fall to Frankton

Eastern Hancock finally ended its five-game scoreless streak on Tuesday but fell to visiting Frankton, 8-5, in eight innings.

Ryan Burris had three hits for the Royals, including a double. Andy Locker had two doubles and three RBIs, and Keegan Bowman had two singles.

Kyle Lacy and Chris Craney each threw three innings, while Dylan Bates pitched two. They combined to allow 10 hits and four earned runs in the loss.

Marauders roll to HHC win

Mt. Vernon finished a doubleheader sweep of New Castle on Tuesday with a 12-4 win.

Hunter Dobbins homered and doubled, accounting for three RBIs for the Marauders. Nolan Bowser had three hits. Sam McCarty and Austin Sumner each had two RBIs. Sumner tripled, and he and Jake Stank also had two hits.

Will Nelson pitched four innings, while Payton Bovard, Eli Clotfelter and Mason Montgomery each pitched one. They allowed eight hits while striking out five and walking two.

Boys golf

Cougars top Arabians

Greenfield-Central picked up a win against Pendleton Heights on Tuesday, 161-184.

Noah Mohler led the Cougars with a 38. Zach Archer and Kyle Arrowood both finished with 40s while Jordan Wray capped off the scoring with a season-best 43.

Royals edge Knightstown

Eastern Hancock picked up a win against Knightstown on Tuesday, 191-193.

Gage Deiser led the Royals with a 44. John McDaniel added a 46, Mason Lardon had a 49 and Sam Kesler had a 52.

Girls tennis

Royals earn sweep

Eastern Hancock picked up a clean 5-0 win Tuesday against Randolph Southern, with all five matches won in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Chelsi McMahan won 6-3, 6-2. Cassandra Hannemann won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Valentina Brooks also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.

At the doubles spots, the No. 1 team of Chloe McCarty and Katie Brown won 6-4, 6-3, and the No. 2 team of Madison Hagan and Bella Witte won 6-0, 6-1.
