Softball

Royals get big MEC win

Eastern Hancock moved into sole possession of first place in the Mid-Eastern Conference on Monday, winning a huge conference rivalry game against host Shenandoah, 6-3.

Paige Wickard led the Royals offense with a double, a single and two RBIs. Megan Bever also had two hits and Bailey Stephens had a hit and two RBIs.

Maddie Turner threw a complete game in the circle, striking out seven, walking one and allowing the three runs on nine hits.

Dragons take share of HHC

New Palestine clinched at least a share of its fifth consecutive Hoosier Heritage Conference title Monday, beating Shelbyville 7-1.

The victory improved the Dragons’ record to 17-2 and 6-0 in the HHC.

The Dragons outhit the Bears 13-4. Raegan Hiatt was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Jaylin Calvert was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Michaela Jones was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Macy Miller was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Tatum Biddle, Lexi Campbell and Kaylea Bullock also had hits.

Bullock pitched five innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and striking out six. Sam Booe finished up the game, fanning three in two hitless innings.

Cougars fall to Chatard

A big sixth inning for Chatard was the difference Monday, as Greenfield-Central couldn’t hold a 2-1 lead and fell on the road, 7-2.

Caroline Gibson and Lexi Rankin led the Cougars offense with two hits each. Sam Kihega hit a solo home run.

Rankin pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Macy Fultz threw 1.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Baseball

Marauders get run-rule win

Mt. Vernon rolled at home on Monday, throwing a no-hitter and topping Herron, 17-0.

Payton Bovard had two hits and two RBIs for the hosts. Shaun Shipley and Hunter Dobbins also drove in two RBIs each.

Thomas Obergfell, Jake Stank and Jake Stadler combined for the shutout on the mound, striking out 10, walking one and allowing no hits.

Cougars edge Lebanon

Greenfield-Central narrowly got past Lebanon on Monday, 9-8.

The Cougars out-hit the visitors, 11-8, to improve to 13-6 on the season.

Boys golf

Marauders pick up win

Mt. Vernon beat Rushville at Antler Pointe Golf Course on Monday, 175-228.

Elijah Dunham earned medalist honors with a round of 42. Sam McWilliams had a 43, Haiden Rose a 44, John Husar a 46, Owen Koon a 48, Simon Thut a 50 and Logan Leroy had a 59.

Dragons fall to Hornets

New Palestine dropped a 173-180 decision Monday to host Beech Grove.

Braeden Baker led the Dragons with a 43. A.J. Williams shot 45, while Austin Terry and Chase Manley each shot 46.

Dragons down Marauders

New Palestine turned the tables on Mt. Vernon on Monday, knocking off the shorthanded Marauders 4-1 a week after finishing second in the county.

With two of Mt. Vernon’s three singles players missing the match due to minor injury, the Dragons swept the singles positions in straight sets. Megan Long won 6-3, 6-4, Caylie Almond won 6-2, 6-3 and Eliza Adams won 6-3, 6-1.

At doubles, Claire Cherry/Josee King won 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2, Sheridan Schrowe/Ashley Truman pushed their match to three sets before falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to Mt. Vernon’s Lexi Shelton and Maddie Swingle.

Cougars top Yorktown

Greenfield-Central traveled to Yorktown on Monday night and earned its third conference win of the season, 3-2.

The three points for Greenfield Central all came from singles. At No. 1 singles, Avery Spencer started with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win. Grace Hall won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Nae Pattakul pikced up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Royals lose to Lapel

Eastern Hancock fell to Lapel on Monday, 4-1.

The Royals point came from No. 2 singles, where Cassandra Hannemann picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
