GREENFIELD — Sectional baseball week is guaranteed to have a county rivalry clash.

The IHSAA announced tournament pairings on Sunday, and while one Hancock County team drew a first-round bye, two others will meet in the first game of the tournament.

In Sectional 9, at Pendleton Heights, the Mt. Vernon Marauders and Greenfield-Central Cougars will meet in one of three opening games for the second year in a row. The winner of the county match-up will meet either Connersville or Anderson in one semifinal.

Pendleton Heights drew the bye and will await either Richmond or Muncie Central in the other semifinal of Sectional 9.

In Sectional 10 at New Palestine, the hosts got a favorable draw, picking up one of the byes into the semifinals. The Dragons will take on Lawrence Central for a spot in the finals. The first-round games are Lawrence North against Warren Central and Cathedral, last year’s state runner-up, against Arsenal Tech.

In Sectional 42 at Triton Central, Eastern Hancock drew a tough opening-round matchup with the 2018 winner of this sectional, Indianapolis Scecina, who advanced all the way to semistate last year. The teams have met this season, an 11-1 Scecina win on April 15.

The winner of that game will meet the winner of the other opening-round contest between Triton Central and Heritage Christian. Irvington Prep Academy and Knightstown drew the byes and will meet in one semifinal game.
