Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I have had over eight years working on an HOA board as president and other officer roles working with and listening to my fellow neighbors on issues and solutions that would improve our community. Also, I work on a daily basis analyzing risk versus reward and need versus wants. I believe I can provide a fresh set of ideas, perspective, solutions and analysis to our growing town’s issues and future progress.

What is the most pressing issue facing McCordsville?

Fire protection and EMS service. Currently, we rely on 100 percent township volunteer fire protection and a third-party ambulance service out of Fortville. A town of our size needs to provide its citizens a full-time-staff fire and EMT department to adequately protect and serve its citizens. Whether this is accomplished by developing our own department, working with Vernon Township to expedite this transition or working with neighboring townships to create a Western Hancock Fire Territory are all options that need to be explored.

What are your thoughts on plans for the proposed town center?

I am not for a taxpayer-funded town center, but I am open to making sure that the zoning for the area is dedicated (and stays that way) for the town’s desired use and purpose. I prefer that private developers take on the financing and development risk associated with a project of this magnitude and not the taxpayers of McCordsville. The town has bigger needs to focus on with the taxpayer funds it receives, and a town center is nothing more than a big want on the taxpayers’ dime.

How does the town responsibly manage the rapid growth it’s experiencing?

I think the town needs to focus its planning and move in the direction of becoming a city, similar to what Westfield and Fishers have done over the past 10 to 15 years. We need to start investing in first-rate public services like a fire and rescue department; recruit and hire quality police officers; invest in public parks; and grow our street department. Quality public safety, excellent schools, excellent roads and enjoyable parks will attract families, businesses and investment into this growing community, but smart planning, embracing leadership and measured growth with a focus on due diligence and proper planning.
