Cougars get home win

Greenfield-Central won a road game changed to a home game due to field conditions Monday, topping visiting Beech Grove, 6-1.

Sophomore Parker Stanley led the Cougars on the mound, striking out 12 in six innings of work. Brady Mundell came in for the seventh inning, striking out two more. 

Greenfield-Central scored in every inning except the third. Stanley and Mundell combined to allow just two hits in the win.

Dragons get second win

New Palestine took an early three-run lead and then put the game away late Monday in a 10-1 victory against host Perry Meridian.

Grant Hickman scattered five hits and allowed no earned runs in six innings. He struck out four and walked none before yielding to Joshua Jaques for the seventh.

The Dragons had eight hits, with Henry Giesler tallying a single, a double and scoring twice. Colby Jenkins also doubled and scored three runs. Trevor Rush had a single, a run and two RBIs. Noah Mack had a single and an RBI. Grant Wiegand tallied a single and a run and Jacob Bain also singled.

Cougars drop first game

Greenfield-Central saw its seven-game winning streak snapped on Monday, falling to host Noblesville, 9-3.

Sam Kihega started the game off with a first-inning home run for the Cougars, but the early lead quickly evaporated when Noblesville scored six in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars cut the lead in half with two runs in the second but couldn’t get any closer.

Kihega finished 4-for-4 at the plate, while Emily Francis went 3-for-4. Lexi Rankin and Macy Fultz combined to throw six innings on the mound, with Fultz allowing 10 hits and four runs and Rankin allowing four hits and one run while striking out three.

Cougars fall to Delta

Greenfield-Central lost its second match of the season on Monday, a 5-0 defeat at Delta.

The closest match for the night came at No. 2 doubles, where Kaleigh Stephenson and Grace Silcox led in both sets before falling, 4-6, 4-6. 

Royals drop opening match

Eastern Hancock fell in its season opener on Monday, dropping a 4-1 decision to Southwestern.

The Royals picked up a win at No. 3 singles, with junior Corina Jennings picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Track

Dragons break records in win

The New Palestine track teams both moved to 4-0 on the season Monday with a dual meet sweep of Southport at Kelso Stadium.

Both teams won by 74-58 scores.

Jordan Reid set a school record in the 100 meters with a time of 12.29 seconds to lead the Dragon girls in their victory. Reid also won the 200 meter dash. Aden Lumbley won the shot put and discus. Other winners were Sophia Taylor in the 400, Victoria Crowder in the 800, Kaylin Casner in the 1600, Emma Mann in the 3,200, Maigan Williams in the 300 hurdles and Jada Hausz in the high jump.

Taylor, Williams, Crowder and Reid won the 4×400. Casner, Mann, Grace Voelz and Crowder won the 4×800.

Laine Schonauer won three individual events for the Dragons boys — the 200, 400 and high jump. Ryker Large won the 100, Josh Collins the 800, Drew Austin the 1,600 and Kyler Harrison the 3,200. Spencer Worth won the pole vault and Richard Clevenger the discus. The Dragons’ 4×400 team of Collins, Carson Sams, Austin and Schonauer won to finish the meet. Collins, Sams, Devon Whitaker and Austin won the 4×800.
