INDIANAPOLIS — Locked Out, the a cappella choir from Mt. Vernon High School, will perform at the Statehouse at 12:30 p.m. Monday as part of a statewide kickoff for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Coordinators for the event saw the choir perform at Christmas at the Ricks in December and invited them to provide some entertainment for the event, said choir director Leigh Anderson.

Locked Out will be singing “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, “Evergreen” by YEBBA and “Steal My Kisses” by Ben Harper.

“Music can make a huge impact on the lives of others,” said Anderson, “and we’re always looking to be part of causes that involve bettering our community.”

In addition to the Mt. Vernon choir, the event will include a proclamation from Gov. Eric Holcomb in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month and remarks from Department of Child Services director Terry Stigdon about the importance of recognizing the signs of child abuse or neglect. Attendees will be invited to plant blue pinwheels — the symbol of innocence — on the Statehouse lawn.
