Mt. Vernon AD earns award
The Indiana Interscholastic Administrators Association (IIAAA) announced its 2019 distinguished service award recipients on Thursday, and Mt. Vernon’s athletic director, Brandon Ecker, was named the Discrict 4 winner.
Ecker received the District 4 Charles F. Maas Distinguished Service Award for his distinguished service to interscholastic athletics, the IIAAA and IHSAA.
"I appreciate the recognition, but none of what we do as ADs is possible without support from a strong administrative team, an excellent coaching staff and a great community to work in with exceptional student-athletes," Ecker said. "I’m proud of the progress Mt. Vernon has made in all facets and look forward to our continued growth as a corporation."

Area athletes earn all-state nods
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association unveiled its 2019 all-state teams on Thursday, and three Hancock County players earned honorable mention designations.
Peyton Meadors, a senior from Mt. Vernon, was named Senior All-State Honorable Mention. Two juniors from New Palestine, Dawson Eastes and Maximus Gizzi, earned Underclass All-State Honorable Mention.

Weather cancels season opener
The 2019 softball season officially is off to a delayed start, as Thursday night’s game between Randolph Southern and Eastern Hancock has been postponed due to wet weather.
The game will be made up at a later date.
The Royals will now open their season April 9 at home against Knightstown.
