GREENFIELD — The League of Women Voters Hancock County will be host of a screening of the 2015 film “Suffragette” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. The movie stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw and Meryl Streep and shows the indignities, violence, sacrifices and ultimate successes of women to secure the vote.

The film is being shown to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the League of Women Voters and the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment which gave American women the right to vote in 2020.

The film is an opportunity to see the origins of many ongoing issues such as teachers demanding better wages. It is also an opportunity to support the work of the non-partisan League of Women Voters Hancock County and to network with other women who are concerned about women’s issues and civic welfare.
