NEW PALESTINE — A New Palestine High School student and six students from the Montessori Science Academy in New Palestine are among state finalists in the National History Day in Indiana contest.

Indiana Historical Society announced Cora Downing, a student at New Palestine High School, is a finalist after impressing National History Day in Indiana judges with her senior paper on Abraham Lincoln.

Downing qualified during a recent regional contest at Franklin College. She joins six Montessori Science Academy students, who were named finalists at an earlier NHDI central region contest in Carmel.

Avarie Hinton, Abril Weller and Noa Burns made it with their exhibit on the USS Indianapolis. Zane Wheatley, Yvan Wheatley and Hunter Lehman were honored for their website on the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The students are invited to attend the state contest on April 13 at the University of Indianapolis.
