HANCOCK COUNTY — The Community Foundation of Hancock County doled out nearly $200,000 to 32 organizations last week through its annual 2024 grant cycle.
Recipients gathered May 16 at the Thrive Center in Greenfield to celebrate the monetary gifts made possible by the generosity of those who have donated funds to the foundation.
The 2024 Annual Grant Cycle was open to any 501(c)3 or charitable tax-exempt organization serving Hancock County, with this year’s grants focusing on capital improvements and program and project support.
Individual grants ranging from just under $2,000 to $10,000 covered a wide gamut of services, including health and wellness, social services and animal welfare.
Six organizations received grants for $10,000 each, including Greenfield Hancock Animal Management, which will use the funding for pre-adoption spay and neuter services.
Hancock Co. Humane Society will use its $10,000 grant for new cat cages while Frenzy Animal Rescue will use its same-size grant for medical treatment.
On the social services side, Alternatives Inc. was awarded $6,000 for outreach to domestic violence survivors while Firefly Children and Family Alliance was awarded $5,000 to host a community baby shower.
The Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County was granted $5,000 to purchase furniture for its new Fortville club site, and the Hancock County Food Pantry was granted $5,000 for a new outdoor walk-in freezer.
The community children’s theater troupe — KidsPlay, Inc. — received just over $6,100 to purchase a new trailer while Love INC was awarded $5,000 to support its Faith & Finances program.
Just over $196,000 in grants were awarded in all.
Gifts were made from the foundation’s unrestricted resources and field of interest funds.
According to a foundation press release, “Field of interest funds allow donors to address a cause or issue of particular importance to them without being locked into naming specific charities. The donor names the purpose of the fund, such as arts, animal welfare, environment or youth.”
