To the editor:

I would like to respond to the letter to editor written by Grant Cripe on Feb. 28 ("New jail operation leaves questions," Page A6).

The perception that there are zero dollars to staff the jail is false. The exact number needed is still being evaluated and studied by seeing firsthand how two other jails are staffed in Plymouth and Vincennes.

This jail will not be built without the necessary funding for staff. The safety of staff and prisoners has always come first.

Transparency to the taxpayers is crucial, and we’re here to answer any concerns you might have. Get the facts and then draw your conclusions.
