FORTVILLE — The Fortville American Legion Post 391 has received a donated Automated External Defibrillator.

The AED was presented to the post by Linda Goff of Pendleton, and through the generosity of Dr. Scott Lintner of OrthoIndy, according to a news release.

Linda Goff lost her husband, Brian Goff, to a heart attack in 2015 while he was playing softball. The sports complex where he was playing did not have an AED available and Brian Goff did not survive the attack, despite CPR efforts to save his life.

AED’s are effective in many cases in saving a life when administered in the first critical moments of a heart attack, the release states.

Post Commander Kris Maynard said of the donation, "We are grateful to Dr. Lintner and to Linda Goff and the Brian’s Heart Foundation for presenting this AED to us. We will be fully trained on the use of the device next week and be prepared to provide aid when needed."

Brian’s Heart hosts an annual softball tournament at Brandywine Park in Greenfield each August.
