Dragons rally falls short

New Palestine rallied from a nine-point deficit to take three different fourth-quarter leads Saturday, but Southport hit three free throws in the final minute to beat the Dragons 48-46.

Dylan Romine led the Dragons with 14 points. Dawson Eastes scored 11 points and Matthew True had 10 to give the Dragons three players in double figures. Maximus Gizzi and Jack Walker scored four points each. Eric Roudebush scored two and Maxen Hook one.

The Dragons fall to 5-4 on the season. They are in action next in a Friday night road doubleheader at Pendleton Heights.

Dragons split home event

New Palestine team went 2-2 at Saturday’s New Palestine 5-way duals, the Dragons’ final home event of the season.

The Dragons began the day with a 72-6 win against Brebeuf before falling 62-6 to Terre Haute South in the second match. Later in the day, the Dragons fell 37-36 to Jennings County and then beat Danville 48-33.

Christian White went 4-0 on the day for the Dragons. Ian Faubion, Noah Wright, Max Jones and Juan Camacho all won three matches. John Dowden, Richard Clevenger and Jacob Brittsan each had two wins.

Marauders win invitational

Mt. Vernon won Saturday’s 12-team Maconaquah Invite, finishing with 261.5 points and eight championships, outdistancing the second-place hosts, who finished with 189.0 points.

Winners for Mt. Vernon were Andrew Johnson at 113 pounds, Carson Johnson at 120 pounds, Chris Wilkerson at 138 pounds, Maxwell Hayes at 152 pounds, Drake Kendrex at 170 pounds, PJ Sterrett at 182 pounds, Charlie Moore at 195 pounds and Parker Smitley at 220 pounds.

Cougars finish third

Greenfield-Central went 2-2 at Saturday’s North Central Invitational, defeating the host Panthers 39-25 and Lawrence Central 72-6 before falling to No. 17 Hamilton Southeastern 41-32 and Westfield 48-27.

Dylan Dorman went 4-0 at 126 pounds. At 132, Gavin Rose finished perfect, going 4-0 with three pins. Also finishing 4-0 were Kenny Thompson at 145 pounds and Cooper Noehre at 152 pounds.
