CHARLOTTESVILLE —  The Eastern Hancock School Board on Monday approved the retirement of Dave Pfaff, Eastern Hancock Middle and High School’s longtime principal.

Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire told the board she would begin advertising for a replacement on Tuesday. Pfaff will help to train his replacement, board members said.

“With heavy hearts, we have to start a principal search,” said Scott Petry, school board president.

McGuire said she plans to create a hiring committee for the position and work closely with Pfaff, elementary school principal Jennifer Pyle, board members and a representative from the teacher’s association. Board members expressed interest in being a part of the recruitment and hiring process.

The Daily Reporter will be working Tuesday on a story with reaction to Pfaff’s decision. It will appear in the Wednesday print edition.
