GREENFIELD

Don A. Pfaff, age 90 of Greenfield passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born December 29, 1928 in Connersville, Indiana to the late Thomas G. and Mary E. (Rose) Pfaff.

He was a 1947 graduate of Lewisville High School and fondly remembered winning the New Castle Sectional where he was a starter for the Lewisville Bears basketball team. He was a 1951 graduate of Canterbury College where he also played basketball collegiately. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to receive his master’s degree from Ball State University. He married Imogene (Godwin) on July 21, 1956.

Don spent his lengthy career as a school teacher, coach and administrator. He was a teacher and coach at Greensfork High School in Wayne County from 1956-1960. He returned to Lewisville High School as principal from 1960-1964. In 1964 Don and his family moved to Greenfield where he assumed the role of assistant principal and athletic director at Greenfield – Central High School until his retirement in 1991.

Don was a member of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association serving on the board of directors from 1977 – 1995. During those years he served as president 1981 – 1982 and secretary 1984-1995. He also served as secretary/treasurer for the Hoosier Heritage Conference 1993 – 2001. Don received many significant honors during his tenure including; 1983 IIAAA State Athletic Director of the Year, 1989 and 1997 IIAAA Charles Maas Award, 1988 the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Award of Merit, his 25-year certificate from the NIAAA in 1990 and was inducted into the Greenfield-Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. He was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving Don are his sons, David (Jane) Pfaff, Douglas (Tom Korecki) Pfaff, Paul (Jillian Gibbs) Pfaff; grandchildren, Amanda Ruble, Aaron, Andrew, Samuel, Caitlin, Kyle, Doug and Lauren Pfaff and great grandchildren, Ava Pfaff and Kellen Ruble.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Imogene; brothers, John, Jim and Harold Pfaff and sister Betty (Pfaff) Hickman.

Friends may call 4-8 pm, Friday, January 11, 2019 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 11 am, Saturday, January 12th at the funeral home with pastor Wm. Daniel O’Connor officiating. Burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
