Royals split first two games

Eastern Hancock opened its season Friday with a road win at Centerville, 55-38, then fell in Saturday’s home opener, 65-45 to Triton Central.

The Royals were led in their win by Jocelyn Duncan, who scored 18 points with four 3-pointers, three assists and three steals. Alyson Spaulding and Jenna Smith each had seven points, with Smith also adding seven rebounds. Haley Best had five points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Bella Witte led the Royals with 13 points and four rebounds in Saturday’s loss. Duncan and Best also scored in double figures, with 12 and 10 points respectively. Smith had eight rebounds and five assists for the hosts.

Cougars lose for first time

Greenfield-Central lost for the first time this season on Saturday, dropping a 54-50 decision to Noblesville.

Hannah Farrell led the Cougars with 16 points. Addie Hill and Lydia McIntire each added 12 points. Crystal Peterson had six, and Haleigh Pribble and Keryna Barrett each added two to round out the scoring for the Cougars.

Dragons roll to another win

New Palestine used a strong start to take a lead Saturday, then pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Southport 62-40.

Katie Herron led the Dragons with 14 points. Leah Seib added 13 points. Jordan Reid also keyed the strong start, scoring four of her six points in the opening quarter.

The Dragons had a balanced effort. Haley Harrison scored seven first-half points, draining a pair of 3-pointers. Michaela Jones added seven fourth-quarter points. Tatum Biddle added six points. Megan Jolly scored four, Avery Biggs three and Claire Cherry two.
