FORTVILLE
Richard F. Messer, 79, of Fortville, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Indianapolis. He was born June 29, 1939 in Indianapolis. Dick was a member of the Murat Shrine where he served as President of the Gatling Gun Club, Fortville F & AM Lodge No. 207, Past Worth Patron of Fortville OES Chapter No 149, Past Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel 41, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #17 and the Son’s of the American Legion Post 391. He was also a member of the Fortville Christian Church and has been charter President of the Greater Indianapolis Gasoline Dealers Association and the Indiana Gasoline Dealers Association.
Dick is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Helen M. (Thurston) Messer; son: Richard F. (Twana) Messer II; grandchildren: Shelli Bell, Mitchel Messer, Robert Rhynearson; great-grandchildren: Abbagail Messer, Wyatt Messer, Brooks Bell, Caleb Bell and Jordan Bell. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Danica L. McCormack; father Oliver Messer, Sr.; mother Mildred V. (Clinton) Castle; siblings: Oliver Messer, Jr., Mildred Lewis, Pauline Yount, Herman Messer, Simon Messer, Lucritia Messer, Sandra Winningham.
Friends may call on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 3 to 7 pm with Masonic memorial rites beginning at 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Bethany Christian Church Cemetery in Washington, IN.
