GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard recently announced it has met its monetary goal to replace a Disabled American Veterans van that transports county residents to the Indianapolis VA hospital.

The honor guard began working in July to raise $15,000 to $20,000 to replace a van used by the local Disabled American Veterans group. The van, which provides about 160 round trips to disabled veterans is nearing 100,000 miles, and the organization is required to trade it in at that point, officials said.

Major contributors included local veterans organizations, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2693, Elks Club No. 1720, American Legion Post No. 182 from New Palestine, the city of Greenfield, the Hancock County Sheriffs’ Association and the Hancock County Fraternal Order of Police No. 140.

“This will allow us to serve the needs of Hancock County veterans for years to come,” said veterans service officer Robert Workman in a news release.
