Entertainment is Top Pick at this year’s Riley Festival

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Tourism and Visitors Center offers a full slate of indoor entertainment with Thrills and Chills at the Riley Showcase in the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St., during this weekend’s Riley Festival.

On Friday night at 7 p.m., hometown talent Gary West will present his “For the Love of Cash” show as a tribute to the late country music entertainer Johnny Cash. West brings to life not only Cash, but the other Highwaymen as well: Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. Tickets are $8 in advance at eventbrite.com (search Gary West Thrills and Chills) or at the Hancock County Tourism and Visitor Center office, 119 W. Main. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

Greenfield’s own Brandywine Wind, under the direction of Jerry Bell, will perform a free concert of big band favorites and jazz numbers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit brandywine-wind.org.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, visitors to the Riley Festival can enjoy a free showing of the PBS documentary “James Whitcomb Riley: Hoosier Poet.” This Emmy-award winning documentary, produced by the Bloomington PBS station WTIU, tells the story of the life of James Whitcomb Riley and highlights his impact on the American literary scene. At 7 p.m. Saturday, Sammy Terry hosts the 50th anniversary of the film that started the zombie craze — George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead.” Zombie fans, movie fans and Sammy Terry fans are invited to come dressed for a costume contest. Tickets are $8 in advance at Hometown Comics (1040 N. State St.), Cynthia’s Hallmark (1584 N. State St.) or at the Hancock County Tourism and Visitor Center office (119 W. Main). Tickets will be $10 at the door.

On Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m., Wilkerson Dance takes over the Ricks Centre with two free performances of the Wilkerson Dance Studio’s Spooktacular Revue. Dancers of all ages will be performing. For more information, visit wilkersondance.com.
