The Pendleton Heights Arabians won the Hoosier Heritage Conference golf title Tuesday at Fall Creek Golf Course, shooting a team score of 181 to beat New Palestine in a tiebreaker.

Finishing behind the Arabians and Dragons were Mt. Vernon, Greenfield-Central and Yorktown, each tied with a 194.

New Palestine’s Annaliese Fox was the conference individual champion, shooting a 38. She won by two strokes over Annie Gillock of New Castle.

County golfers joining Fox on the all-HHC team were Greenfield-Central’s Caroline Gibson and Haley Hoagland, New Palestine’s Izzy Gray and Mt. Vernon’s Meredith Johnson.

It was the Arabians’ first title in 11 years and fifth overall, joining titles won in 1993, 1998, 2006 and 2007.

Boys soccer

Dragons get shutout win

New Palestine scored twice in the second half to beat Greenwood 2-0 on Tuesday at Kelso Stadium.

Luke Gohmann had a goal and an assist in the victory.

The game was scoreless until the midway point of the second half, when Gohmann fed Jon Moore on the left side of the box for a goal to give the Dragons the lead.

Gohmann added a goal off an assist from Zach Martin with eight minutes to go to seal the victory.

The Dragons improved to 4-5-1 with the win, and are 3-1-1 in their last five games.

Marauders come back

Mt. Vernon found itself behind Shelbyville in the second half Tuesday by two goals, only to bounce back and complete the comeback in a 3-2 victory.

Scoring for the Marauders were Tylin Broaders (2) and Garrett Heraly. Tenacious defense in the second half helped fuel wthe comeback.

Mt. Vernon is now 7-1 on the season, 5-1 in HHC play.

Tennis

Dragons sweep past Tech

New Palestine improved to 10-2 on the season Tuesday with a 5-0 victory over Tech.

At singles, Matthew True won 6-0, 6-0. Trevor Darley followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Zach Au won his varsity debut 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Ezra Schwier and Jeremy Wagoner won 6-0, 6-0, with it being Schwier’s first varsity win.

The Dragons received a forfeit at No. 2 doubles.

Volleyball

Delta downs Dragons

New Palestine staged rallies in the second and third sets Tuesday, but fell 25-10, 25-18, 25-20 to HHC rival Delta.

The Dragons are now 11-4 on the season and 0-2 in HHC play.

Kaelyn Armstrong had seven kills and five digs for the Dragons. Jesi Hall, Lauren Dodd and Lydia Jones all had five kills each. Sydney Robertson had 21 assists and six digs.

Defensively, Rylie Sturgeon had 10 digs. Audrey VanderWal added eight and Jones seven.

Cross-Country

Dragons win invitational

The New Palestine cross-country teams swept the championships at Tuesday’s Whiteland Invitational.

The Dragon girls won with a perfect score of 15, sweeping the top five spots. Brenna Shaw, Kaylin Casner, Victoria Crowder, Kendall Mann and Emily Adam took the sweep. Grace Voelz (10th) and Sophia Taylor (12th) were the Dragons’ sixth and seventh runners. The Dragons won in a field of 10 teams.

The Dragon boys were first of nine teams with a score of 28 places. New Palestine placed five runners in the top 10. Drew Austin was third, Kyler Harrison fifth, Josh Collins sixth, Caleb Stirm eighth and Devon Whitaker ninth. Josh Ackerman was 16th.
