CUMBERLAND — The Town of Cumberland received funding from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works to assist in a road project, the cities announced Tuesday.

Cumberland will share the cost of resurfacing of Saturn Street, a stretch of road that runs east to west near the Pennsy Trail, with the Indianapolis Department of Public Works. The department awarded $12,759.84 to match the town’s contribution to the project. The 50-50 match funding is part of the Indy Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett presented Cumberland officials with the funding on Tuesday.

In December 2017, Hogsett announced that the department of public works would accept proposals from community-based organizations for 2018 infrastructure projects under a matching fund pilot program. Funds are available for roads, sidewalks, multi-use paths and bridges, the release states.

The department of public works set aside up to $4 million in matching funds to organizations in 2018. The maximum award for any project was $1.5 million. About 10 other projects were awarded funding.
