Jail plan too costly

To the editor:

It may be time to drain the swamp locally so the powers that be get their $55 million jail project voted down. Somehow they need to come up with a sensible, economical solution to relocate the ever expanding jail to “free land” that should’ve come in at a $30 million bid but managed to squeeze over twice that much in an exorbitant plan to create a massive law complex. $70 million is a mind boggling amount.

RQAW Engineering and Architectural Firm — man, would I like to be on the executive year end bonuses of that firm. And then our next sheriff-to-be all of a sudden pops out a plan to place trailers to alleviate crowding in the jail. Hmmm. I wonder where that plan was when he was giving tours before the primary?

Apparently Jeannine Gray is the only one there who can see the forest for the trees. I say let’s put her in charge of the council and the jail plans and let the other long term bean counters concentrate on what color the walls of the new jail should be painted.

All you old time GOP cronies, it doesn’t pay to be so blatantly carefree with taxpayer monies. You’ll have more than heartburn when you start seeing some Democrats get elected in your place. Here’s an idea: Why not use more of those converted trailers for the sheriffs’ offices? Surely they wouldn’t mind cutting back to get a new jail built?
