GREENFIELD
Irene Luella (Selke) VanKirk, 89, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 28, 1928, in Ripley County as the daughter of Elmer John Henry and Edna Anna Minnie (Cutter) Selke. She graduated from Napoleon High School. Irene married Charles Merle VanKirk on June 25, 1949, in Milan, IN.
She was a homemaker and a loving mother. Irene was a member of the Hancock County Homemakers Extension Club for 54 years. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and watching her grandchildren participate in various activities.
Irene is survived by her sons, Larry (Marcy) VanKirk of Fountaintown and Bill VanKirk of Wyoming; brothers, Floyd (Linda) Selke of Fairland and Paul (Judith) Selke of Indianapolis; sister, Doris Selke of Greenfield; and grandchildren, Allison and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John VanKirk; and brothers, Lloyd Selke, Louis Selke, and Ernest Selke.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the mortuary. The Rev. Woody Thompson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
