GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Community Foundation encourages women and girls to unite through charitable giving for the purpose of addressing needs and issues affecting women and families in the community.

More than 10 years ago as an HCCF board member, Glenna Shelby expressed an interest in a program that would embrace the philanthropic goals of women to affect change in her community. When the Women’s Fund of Hancock County began more than 10 years ago, Shelby was one of the first members and has been involved ever since.

“The Women’s Fund is recognition that women’s philanthropy is a factor and a force in the community,” Shelby said.

She enjoys the giving circle philosophy because the value of her gift may not be significant on its own, but pooling funds allows each woman to participate at a significant level.”

Shelby values the power that results when women come together for philanthropy to identify issues facing women and families, she said.

Those who become members of the Women’s Fund by making an annual contribution of $200 or more may nominate and vote for grantees and receive admission to the annual Power of the Purse banquet.

This year’s Power of the Purse is slated for 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at Adaggio’s Banquet Hall and Conference Center, 5999 W. Memory Lane, Suite C, Greenfield.
