Virginia “Ginny” Jean (Murphy) Martin, age 62, of Greenfield, passed away from complications after a yearlong battle with cancer on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on September 23, 1955, in Greenfield, the daughter of Forrest P. and Virginia M. (Ewing) Murphy. She graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 1973. Ginny married Charles W. Martin on May 11, 1975, at Mohawk United Methodist Church.

Soon after marriage, Ginny owned and operated Ginny’s Curl & Swirl for 15 years. After closing her beauty shop, she worked for USA Group in Fishers and Century 21 in Greenfield as administrative assistant for Roy Wilson. In the last several years Ginny has been a Hancock County employee first in the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office in Child Support Division and later in the Clerk’s office. For the last 11 years, Ginny has worked in the Auditor’s office as bookkeeper. She and Charles are members of The Caring Place church in Indianapolis. Ginny’s hobbies included painting, crafting, camping, antiques, genealogy and shopping. However, her number one priority was her family! Ginny loved spending time with her husband, her two sons and their wives and her three grandchildren who were the light of her life!

Ginny is survived by her husband, Charles Martin of Greenfield; sons, Andrew “Andy” (Sarah) Martin of Sellersburg, IN, and Scott (Olivia) Martin of Vine Grove, KY; three grandchildren, Emily, Jared, and Lane Martin; sisters, Marilyn Gant of Middletown and Paula (Dick) Hunt of Greenfield; brother, Greg (Vera) Murphy of Greenfield; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Virginia Murphy; granddaughter, Loralei Grace Martin; and sisters, Judy Jenkins and Becky Nolan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the mortuary with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jon Susa will be officiating the services with burial following at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

The family would like to thank the Sue Ann Wortman Cancer Center staff; St. Vincent hospital nursing staff and doctors, especially Dr. Raja Mahidhara, for the exceptional care and love Ginny was given that was above and beyond. The family would also like to thank all of the Hancock County employees who so generously donated their vacation time to Ginny; your acts of love and care will never be forgotten.
