Reverend C. Vaughn Murray, 94, of Greenfield, passed away January 1, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospital, in Greenfield. He was born on May 3, 1922, in Jackson, Mich., as the son of Charlie Murray and Edith (Reynard) Murray.
He graduated from Chester Center High School in 1939. Mr. Murray received his Associates in Theology from Marion College in 1952. He served in the Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He was a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class and was honorably discharged on November 8, 1945. He married Betty L. (Harris) on January 27, 1945 in Muncie, Ind. They were married for over 70 years.
He was a Pastor for Swayzee Street Church in Marion, Ind. from 1952 to 1960. He then Pastored for Daleville E.U.B. Church from 1961 to 1966 before it later became Trinity Community Church in Daleville, Ind. He continued to minister there from 1966 to 1983. Mr. Murray loved hunting, fishing, spending time with family, and worshipping the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Harris) Murray, of Greenfield; son, Dr. Terry (Beth) Murray, of Normalville, Penn.; daughter, Judy Smoll, of Greenfield; grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Murray, Tammy (Chad) Coughernour, Trent (Danielle) Smoll, Brad (Debbie) Murray, Joy (Kip) Adams, Tina (Adam) Hopkins, Brittany (Tim) Campbell, Nicole Murray, Chase Murray, and Jordan Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leone, Chloe, Evelyn; infant son, Douglas Dee Murray; son and daughter-in-law, Mick and Julie Murray; son-in-law, David Smoll; and great-grandson, Braedan.
A calling will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday January, 5, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on January 5, at the mortuary. Dr. Terry Murray will be officiating.
