To the editor:

“This land is your land, from California to the New York Island, from the redwood forest to the gulf stream waters, this land was made for you and me.”

Many people, especially the younger generation, probably don’t know this song. It is very evident people in Greenfield and other cities do not show respect for their land God gave us.

For they take great delight and liberty in throwing out their trash everywhere. It’s all along the roadsides, especially State Road 9, north and south, onto people’s lovely lawns, into ditches, caught up into fences, bags blown into trees, around business offices, restaurants, retail stores, etc.

Such things as boxes, cardboard, cups, bottles, cans — the list goes on. This debris needs immediate cleanup. People need to learn to stop littering. This summer, this may create a collection of mosquitoes. We really don’t want that. We need to create a clean-up campaign.
