Art & Soul brings tunes to Indianapolis Artsgarden
INDIANAPOLIS — Soul and blues recording artist Tad Robinson will perform at 12:15 p.m. Friday in the Indianapolis Artsgarden, the metal-and-glass structure over the intersection of Washington and Illinois streets downtown and connected to Circle Centre Mall.
Saturday is the kickoff event for the monthlong Art & Soul celebration of African-American art and artists in Indiana, starting at 12:15 p.m. and featuring the Griot Drum Ensemble.
The Arts Council of Indianapolis partnered with Asante Children’s Theatre, Freetown Village, Latino Youth Collective, Madame Walker Theatre Center and Honorary Chair Amos Brown to present Art & Soul. Throughout February, the Arts Council will commemorate the impact of the African diaspora on Indiana arts and culture with free performances, featured artists and a group exhibition at the Artsgarden. The diaspora is migration waves of communities throughout the world that are descended from the historic movement of peoples from Africa, predominantly to North and South America.

Examine modernism at museum of art in Indy
INDIANAPOLIS — It’s hard to think of things from more than 100 years ago as modern, but that’s what they were called then.
For now, most of the Indianapolis Museum of Art is free, and at 1 p.m. Saturday visitors can get a guided tour of “The Rise of American Modernism” exhibition. See and examine the works that caused quite a stir in 1913.

Gourmet chefs will offer recipes at library event
GREENFIELD — Chefs Pam Cooley and Jan Owens present “Food Mash-up” recipes 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road.
In this free workshop, taste samples of food fusions from ingredients not usually paired together. Those who attend have a chance to win prizes, and everyone takes home a booklet of recipes. This event is featured in the library’s Mid-winter Mash-up reading club, which runs through February.

Exhibit looks at park’s past through photographs
INDIANAPOLIS — “Snapshots from the Past: Photographs of Garfield Park” is in the main gallery of the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive, through Feb. 28.
The exhibition features images taken of the park by Indy Parks staff photographers, including images of the area of the art center’s parking lot when it was a swimming pool. For information, see gpacarts.org.
Local galleries showcase award-winning Hoosiers
The works of eight award-winning Indiana artists — Kathy Blankenheim, Beth Forst, Victoria Gilleron, Wyatt Legrand, Julia London Meddles, Sarah Luginbill, J. Rodney Reveal and Beth Clary Schwier — make up the first exhibition of the Hancock County Arts Twenty North gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield.
Photographic art layered for 3D effect by Jon Vance is on display in the Greenfield Banking Company art gallery, 1920 N. State St., second floor, Greenfield, through the end of February.
