Allan L. Harter, 66, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. He was born on Feb. 2, 1948, to the late Jester and Mildred Harter.

He graduated from New Palestine High School and retired from Tom O'Brien Chrysler. He spent years building, restoring, and maintaining antique and classic cars, airplanes and motorcycles; but his passion was restoring and flying antique airplanes, that started with his father and has been passed down to his son and grandson. He was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) since 1981.

He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Brenda (Marsh) of Greenfield; son, Ryan (Brandy) Harter of Greenfield; brother, Terry (Tara) Harter of New Palestine; brother-in-law, James (Michele Lee) Marsh of Fountaintown; sister-in-law, Deena Marsh of New Palestine; grandchildren Michael and Aubrey Harter; aunt, Dorothy Foster of Rising Sun; nephew, Brian (Angie) Harter; nieces, Kim (Tim) Gross and Rochelle (Matt) Shores; cousin, Mark Guard; and the beloved family pet, Cubby.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of his life will be held at Harter Flying Field in the Fall.
