Mildred L. “Mickey” Miller, age 83, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, in Greenfield. Born on March 2, 1928, in Hancock County, she was the daughter of Claude and Chloe Aurelia (Dobbins) Whitesides.

She married Homer Ray “Hank” Miller on September 23, 1951, at Mt. Comfort Church in Hancock County. He preceded her in death in October of 2010. Mickey graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1946 and worked for the Indiana State Board of Health in secretarial positions for 40 years before retiring as the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Indiana State Health Commissioner. She was a member of Philadelphia UMC, the Red Hat Society of Greenfield, the Greenfield Women’s Christian Society, and the United Methodist Women’s Missions Group. She was also a member of the Oasis Timesteppers and Oasis Good Time Singers. She was involved in different musicals and went to nursing homes to perform, and various other functions. At her church, Mrs. Miller was a pianist and Sunday School teacher who served as a board member, leader of Pastor Parish, and other various committees. She was also an avid waterskier, square dancer, and bowler who loved her family.

Surviving her are her sons, Rev. Mark (Linda) Miller and Kevin (Sherie) Miller of Greenfield; daughter, Dana R. (partner Eren Garard) Miller of Greenfield; grandchildren, Ryan (Cassie) Miller, Matthew (fiancé, Courtney Mitchum) Miller, David (Heather) Miller, Christian (Samantha) Miller, Emily (Kirk) Jocham; Eren’s children, Christopher Davis, Emily Davis, Alex Adamitis, Elisabeth Adamitis, Samuel Adamitis and Caleb Barrett; great-grandchildren, Kaden Miller, Rylan Miller, Masan E. Miller, Walker R. Miller, and Aydan Miller; step great-grandchildren, Paige Rutledge and Kye Jocham; sisters-in-law, Alice Whitesides of Indianapolis, Pauline Gaither of Greenwood, and Sylvia Mussman of Mich.

Preceding her in death were her brothers, Nile (Doris) Whitesides, Glenn Whitesides, and Uryal Whitesides; parents; and husband.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Pastor Don Reder and Reverend Mark Miller will be officiating. Burial will take place at Philadelphia Cemetery.
