Opal Marie (Shepherd) Johnson, 96, of New Castle, formerly of the Ogden-Knightstown area, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at her home in New Castle. She was born Nov. 27, 1914, in Dupont, Jennings County, Ind., a daughter of the late William Franklin and Nettie Brooks (Andres) Shepherd.
Survivors include her children, Ethlyn Beth Applegate of New Castle and James A. (Linda) Johnson of Greenfield; eight grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Leta Stout of Wanamaker and Syrena Turner of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Larry Wayne Johnson and Jerry L. Johnson; sisters, Ruby Fisher and Mabel McGuire; brothers, Arthur, Frank, Harley and Lloyd Shepherd; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Carolyn Stoten of the Ogden Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
