Walter J. Ferdon, age 80, passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born on June 21, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Gerald and Florence (Austin) Ferdon.

Walter graduated from Fordson High School earning a BA in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He then earned a Masters degree in School Administration from The University of Michigan and went on to earn a PHD in School Administration from Ball State University. He married Nancy L. Clevenger on June 15, 1957, in Trilby, Ohio. He was a math teacher for many different school systems over the years. His last teaching position was for Boca Raton High School in Fla. He was also a High School Administrator in Ohio and Mich. and was previously an administrator for the American School in Kuwait. A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Ferdon was a member of the 82nd Airborne.

Mr. Ferdon was a member of the Blue Lodge in Oxford, Ohio, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greenfield, and an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Surviving him are his wife, Nancy Ferdon of Greenfield; sons, Steven E. (Mary) Ferdon of Columbus, and Russell S. (Jeana) Ferdon of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, David Ferdon of Belleville, Mich.; sister, Marilyn Elmendorf of Waldon Lake, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Samuel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank Ferdon.

A Masonic Service in memory of Walter will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Visitation will follow until 4 p.m. and a Memorial Service will take place at 4 p.m. Pastor Russ Jarvis will be officiating.
