E. Max Worland
E. Max Worland, 74, of Pendleton, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at his residence. He was born on April 2, 1940, in Hancock County as the son of Francis L. and Cora E. (Turner) Worland.
He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. Mr. Worland attended Butler University and graduated from Indiana Mortuary College. He married Lucinda “Lucy” (Blackburn) on November 14, 1958, in Greenfield. Max worked for many years as an MAI real estate appraiser and was a licensed funeral director. Max was elected to Greenfield City Council in 1963 and served on the Hancock County Sheriff Merit Board. He founded Worland Cleaners and Worland Appraisal Services. He was a member and a former parish council member at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and a competitor in sporting clay shooting tournaments.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lucy (Blackburn) Worland of Pendleton; sons, Max (Elaine) Worland, Jr. of Richmond, Ind. and Greg (Tammi) Worland of Pendleton; four grandchildren, Joe, Angela, Zack and Gena; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Ben, Elijah and Jaiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis L. and Cora E. (Turner) Worland; sister, Shirley Worland; and grandson, Matthew Worland.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Msgr. William Stumpf will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery in Pendleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, Indiana 46140 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
