Clinton Jerome “Jerry” Hopkins 83 of Johnson City, TX passed away at his home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born in Lee County, VA as the second of four children, to his late parents Henry A. and Laura B. (Combs) Hopkins.

Jerry graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1959. He loved life, was a teller of tall tales, and always quick with a joke. He believed that you could never have enough toys (tractors, quads, motorcycles, cars, trucks, golf carts, go carts, his Cessna plane, etc), and there wasn’t anything mechanical he couldn’t fix.

Jerry was a Free and Accepted Mason of the state of Indiana for nearly 48 years, a Lifetime Member of the Houston Rodeo, last serving as a Captain for the Livery Team, thus volunteering countless hours for decades. Jerry enjoyed flying out of Indianapolis Regional Airport, served in the US Army Reserves, and raised Ostrich, Emu, and Rhea birds while living in Lufkin, TX.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his loving parents and two sisters: Elizabeth “Liz” J. Surchevich, and Mary Jacqueline “Jacque” Helvey.

Jerry is survived by his special lady, Donna Finch, Johnson City, TX, his daughters, Monica Hopkins (Stephen Strauss) of Webster Groves, MO, Alison Hooper (Thomas) of John’s Creek, GA, his younger brother, Henry A. Hopkins, Jr of Plainfield, IN, three grandchildren, William “Wyatt” Stahlschmidt of Albuquerque, NM, Charles “Charlie” Stahlschmidt of Scottsdale, AZ, Reagan Hooper of John’s Creek, GA, and three step-grandchildren, Gavin Jones of St. Augenstine, FL, Carla Jones and Hayden Jones, both of Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews.

Not wanting a “service” of any sort, Jerry just asked that you pour yourself a glass of whatever you like and salute him with a cheers. If you are inclined to do so, make a donation in memory of Jerry Hopkins to either the Masons or to the Houston Rodeo Scholarship Fund.

His Masonic Lodge is in a 157 year old building that is in constant need of repairs and improvements.
