Meredith (Ross) White

Meredith (Ross) White, 77, of Greenfield is at rest now having passed away late Friday evening March 14, 2014, in her home in Greenfield.  She fought a number of difficult battles over the past 46 years. She was born on Sept. 27, 1936, in the Indiana University Hospital located on campus in Bloomington. Meredith was the daughter of Dr. Melville and Linne Irene (VanLaningham) Ross.

Meredith and Frank first met when they were five-years-old and eight-years-old respectively. Following the death of her father Meredith’s mother moved her and her sister from Bloomington to Greenfield in 1941.  They moved into a house on East North Street just four doors from Frank.  From that first meeting, their friendship grew throughout the years turning into a loving relationship in their teenage years. So when they were teenagers and just prior to graduation they carefully planned or so they thought an adventure to runaway to Kentucky and get married in June of 1952.  Sadly their adventure was unsuccessful, but happier days were just three months ahead when they did get married on Sept. 6, 1952, in Anderson, with family members present.

Meredith not only loved and shared things with her children she also found personal enjoyment over the years in reading many different types of books and articles, reading and writing poetry, listening to music of all types, yoga, swimming as often as possible (she was a charter member of the Hancock  Wellness Center) and working Sudoku puzzles. She also took very good care of her husband throughout their time together.

In the 1980‘s and early 1990’s Meredith became active and successful in the real estate market in both Greenfield and Hancock County for 13 years.  She was a sale associate with both Century 21 and Better Homes and Gardens during that time and was quite good at what she did. She at one point in her career served as president of the Hancock County Board of Realtors and felt honored to do so. She often credited Mark Dudley as being her primary mentor who helped her launch and forward her career in the business.  She was dedicated to her clients and always tried to serve them to the best of her ability in order to achieve the desired results.

Meredith’s family extend their sincerest appreciation and thanks to the angels of Hancock Regional Home Health Care and Hospice and the many Indiana University physicians, nurses and all other medical staff members that provided her with such good loving care and treatment throughout these many past months.

She is survived by her husband, of 61 years, Frank White; daughter,  Lynn A. (Max) Fall, Indianapolis; grandson, Jarrett K. White; daughter- in-law, Linda White of Carlisle, Mass.; sister, Ruth A.(Donald) Herendeen of Marcellus, Mich.; nieces, Julia (Mark) Shultz of Plainwell, Mich., Sherri Backemeyer of Indianapolis and Patti (Robert) Naylor of Chapel Hill, N.C.; nephews, Ric (Demita) Herendeen of Austin, Minn., Steve Backemeyer of Indianapolis and Dan (Annie) Herendeen of Kirkland, Wash. and stepgrandchildren, Libby (Bobby) Kokinos of Fishers and Alex Fall of Indianapolis.
